POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

ADMINISTRATIVE SECRETARY

The Office of the Federal Public Defender, Districts of Colorado and Wyoming, seeks a full-time Administrative Secretary.  The office operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. § 3006A, to provide zealous and professional legal representation to indigent persons charged with criminal offenses in the United States District Courts in Colorado and Wyoming and the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Job Description:  The Administrative Secretary provides secretarial support to the administrative and legal staff.  Duties include answering telephones, word-processing, photocopying, scanning, organizing case files, file maintenance, scheduling and calendaring meetings, walking documents to the courthouse, distributing informational material to employees, routing mail and deliveries, and other duties as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:  Applicants must be a high school graduate or equivalent and possess two years of general experience and one year of specialized experience as a secretary performing progressively responsible duties.  Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, are necessary.  Spanish-language fluency, Microsoft Excel, and law-office experience are strongly preferred.  Candidate must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, confidential, team-oriented, able to work speedily and independently, and able to exercise mature judgment. The ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds is required.  

Applicants must be a United States citizen, or a person authorized to work in the United States and receive compensation from this agency.  Appointment is subject to a satisfactory background investigation including an FBI name and fingerprint check and an IRS tax check.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time position with federal benefits and salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The position is excepted service and does not carry the tenure rights of the competitive Civil Service.  Benefits include health and life insurance, retirement, and the Thrift Savings Plan.  Salary is payable only by direct deposit.
